Information

We are Occupy Missoula – the Missoula, MT installation of Occupy Wall Street. We have been actively occupying the Missoula County Courthouse Lawn since Saturday, 8 October 2011. By occupying public space we are exercising our constitutional right to peacefully assemble. It is our belief that the use of consensus building, non-violent approaches to engaging in the world and thoughtful acts of civil disobedience can and will enact wide spread change.

The Occupy Wall Street movement is a powerful, leaderless resistance comprised of people of many colors, genders and political persuasions. No one group is “in charge” of the movement and no one ideology is an over-arching theme. We are a group that does not discount the power of each individual, and individuals that recognize the strength of a group acting with conscience. Among the concepts the participants have in common is the belief that 99% of the population should no longer tolerate the class warfare, greed, corruption, manipulation or political and social control of the 1%. The Occupation movement empowers real people to create real change from the bottom up.

Occupy Missoula accepts (and prefers) donations of goods and services for our working groups. We also accept cash donations to cover the costs of community education, direct action outreach, Occupy Missoula events and encampment expenses. All donations go directly to Occupy Missoula.

  1. We also need dome lights for the bathrooms, glow sticks, chalk, pens, paper [lined and blank], notebooks, water, torch lighters, regular BIC lighters, Mylar Space blankets, feminine hygiene products, toilet paper, paper towels, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, cold weather gear, blankets, a gas powered generator, portable heaters, hand warmers, first aid kit stuff, napkins, cups, plates, plastic silverware, a flip cam to record video, a digital camera and SD card to take pictures, a power strip, umbrellas, chapstick, lotion for dry sky, liquid soap, hand sanatizer, whistles, flashlights, and the list goes on..

We WANT cigarettes, dog food, tea, coffee, candy, Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous [a meeting is starting at the occupation, but hard to do with no books.], Gatorade, hot cocoa, caffeine free drinks, musical instruments; this list probably goes on even further..

  2. I have just read your list. I live Upstate. I will collect some of the items you mentioned and bring them down over the weekend, probably Sunday a.m. Just made a run to the local Salvation Army and landed quite a few warm sweaters and fleece jackets. Don’t yet have a twitter account yet but here is my cell phone number: 845 853-5330 Lindsay Battle

  3. Do you have a general fund of any sort to which folks (who are unable to be present on site) might contribute? It occurred to me that quite a number of local merchants might be willing to have a coffee-can sort of receptacle at their check out for cash donations to the local OWS general need. Certainly I would contribute!

Best to you all for your most excellent efforts!!
